When to marry

The cooler, drier winter months, roughly May to November, are popular. The hotter summer, roughly November to April, is more humid, with cyclones most likely between January and March.

Ceremony & paperwork

Couples who are neither citizens nor residents of Mauritius can have a legal civil wedding there. The Civil Status Division asks for documents to be sent well ahead, often six to eight weeks before the wedding, including recent birth certificates and passport copies, with originals checked on arrival. The ceremony can take place the day after publication, and hotel weddings are possible for an extra fee. Check current requirements with the Civil Status Division before booking.

Legal or symbolic?A legal ceremony abroad makes you married under that country’s law. A symbolic ceremony has all the romance without the paperwork, and many couples then complete a short legal formality in the UK. Requirements vary and can change, so always check current official guidance for your destination, including GOV.UK’s guidance on getting married abroad, before booking.
