When to marry

Late spring to early autumn is the main wedding season. High summer is hot and busy; May, June, September and early October are often gentler for guests.

Ceremony & paperwork

Foreign couples can usually have a legal civil ceremony in Greece. Each of you will typically need a passport, birth certificate and proof that you are free to marry, apostilled and officially translated into Greek, and a marriage notice published locally before the town hall issues a licence. Many couples instead marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Greece. Requirements can change, so always check current rules with the local municipality before booking.

Legal or symbolic?A legal ceremony abroad makes you married under that country’s law. A symbolic ceremony has all the romance without the paperwork, and many couples then complete a short legal formality in the UK.
