When to marry

The drier months, roughly December to April, are the most popular. The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June to November, so we talk you through timing and travel insurance.

Ceremony & paperwork

Several Caribbean islands offer legal weddings for visitors, with rules that differ by island. For example, Saint Lucia has no residency period, Jamaica asks visitors to be on the island at least 24 hours beforehand, Barbados has no minimum stay, and Antigua offers a special licence without a waiting period. Documents such as passports, birth certificates and proof of any divorce are usually needed. Check the current requirements for your island before booking.

Legal or symbolic?A legal ceremony abroad makes you married under that country’s law. A symbolic ceremony has all the romance without the paperwork, and many couples then complete a short legal formality in the UK. Requirements vary and can change, so always check current official guidance for your destination, including GOV.UK’s guidance on getting married abroad, before booking.
